Key Stage 3 Curriculum

Our KS3 Drama curriculum at St Ronan’s College enables pupils to engage with all elements of performing arts and theatre making. From acting and script work to lighting, sound and set design; students will have the opportunity to develop their theatrical skills whilst experiencing a variety of play texts to practice these skills.

Key Stage 4 Curriculum

At Key Stage 4 (GCSE), students will continue to develop and tailor their theatrical skills whilst applying them to exam specification. We follow the CCEA exam board specification, which is 60% practical, 40% theoretical. Students will either act or design for 2 performances and study the play Blood Brothers’ by Willy Russell for their written exam.

Key Stage 5 Curriculum

At Key Stage 5 (A-Level), students will refine and master their theatrical skills towards their preferred specialism towards. At AS, students will work independently to develop their own repertoire of skills and performances. At A2, students will apply their work from AS into a profession context; establishing their own theatre company and producing their own performance. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with a performance portfolio consisting of a CV, professional headshot and showreel that reflects current industry practice.

Extra Curricular

At St Ronan’s College, there are ample opportunities to engage with the Performing Arts outside of the classroom environment. Thanks to the new facilities provided with our new school build, the Drama department are now in the position to offer a plethora of extra curricular activities such as:

  • Drama Club
  • Dance Club
  • Tech Team

Career Pathways

Northern Ireland has become a hub for the creative industries to develop theatrical media. With large projects such as How to Train your Dragon, Game of Thrones and Derry Girls showcasing the viability of creative arts professionals within Northern Ireland. Our entire curriculum aims to promote the performing arts industry and equip the next generations with the necessary skills needed to pursue a career in this ever-evolving industry.

Experiences and Opportunities

The Drama Department at St Ronan’s has established successful partnerships with professional theatre companies that have enabled our students to work directly with these specialist. We’ve collaborated in Bruiser Theatre Company’s Vital Connect’ program and National Theatre Connections; which culminated in a performance at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast. We are delighted to announce we have been selected as part of the Lyric Theatre’s Schools Affiliation Scheme, which will provide our students opportunities to visit and collaborate with theatre industry professionals of all aspects of theatre making.
